To commemorate the sesquicentennial of the beginning of the American Civil War,will play host to two days of activities—including a Civil War military “encampment” on Saturday and Sunday, April 16-17.

The project, “This Hallowed Ground: Commemorating the Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War,” will include the Living History Exhibit (the encampment) from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday on the grassy median just across from SIUE’s Hairpin Drive. Historians will be on hand to answer questions about military life during the Civil War.

The event also will include a local version of the Antiques Road Show from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday in SIUE’s Morris University Center, in which visitors may share family Civil war stories and artifacts with historians and librarians for recording purposes. Please note that items will not be appraised for monetary value; no firearms are permitted on campus.

Previous research has linked dopamine agonists, which include Mirapex (pramipexole) and Requip (ropinirole), to impulse control disorders, such as gambling addiction and hypersexuality, and to compulsive behaviors, such as binge eating, overspending and excessive computer use.

In this study, Mayo Clinic researchers analyzed Parkinson's disease patient records over two years.

"What we found was that as many as 22 percent of patients during that two-year period had a new-onset impulse control disorder," lead investigator and neurology fellow Dr. Anhar Hassan said in a Mayo Clinic news release.

The higher the dose of dopamine agonist, the more likely a patient was to develop an impulse control disorder, the researchers found.

U.S. stock index futures pointed to a higher open on Wednesday as data showed private employers added jobs in a sign of economic improvement and acquisition activity lifted sentiment.

Private employers created 201,000 jobs in March, according to ADP Employer Services, a rise that was in line with expectations.

The report by the payrolls processor is closely watched for insight into the health of the labor market, although it has little correlation with the government's broader non-farm payrolls report due on Friday.

ADP "shows that the labor recovery continues at a reasonable pace," said David Katz, chief investment officer at Matrix Asset Advisors in New York, adding that "the improving labor market should be a buffer against weak areas" of the economy.

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) said Wednesday that Pakistan can expect a good wheat harvest despite severe flooding last year as seeds distributed to flood victims begin to ripen.

"FAO spent $54 million of international donor funding buying and distributing quality wheat seeds as part of its emergency intervention that began last August," the Rome-based UN agency said in a statement.

"Once the harvest is completed, this donation will have produced a crop worth almost $190 million in wheat flour, the main staple" and provide "enough food for half a million poor rural households," it said.

"Farmers will be able to save the seeds from this year?s harvest to plant again later this year," said Daniele Donati of FAO's Emergency Operations Service.

A Thai court on Friday ordered 13 leaders of the influential "Yellow Shirt" protest movement to pay $17 million in compensation over their involvement in crippling airport blockades in 2008.

The nation's Civil Court found that the group "illegally interfered" in the operation of Bangkok's two main airports during the protest, which left more than 300,000 travellers stranded and caused major damage to Thailand's economy.

It instructed the key Yellow Shirts to pay a total of 522.1 million baht ($17.3 million) to national operator Airports of Thailand, plus interest of 7.5 percent a year since December 3, 2008, when the protest came to an end.

"The defendants incited protesters, through their speeches, to occupy the airports," the verdict said.

The Yellows, who boast support from Bangkok elites and elements in the military, used to be linked to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, but the relationship has soured over his handling of a border dispute with Cambodia.
